Description

Our valued volunteers bring smiles and hope to our patrons who utilize services at our shelter! There are many ways you can volunteer at the House of Charity. Some positions include the following listed below:

  • Deliver mail for our patrons during our Day Program

  • Drive our van to local grocery stores to pick up donated groceries that help feed our patrons

  • Help with the Emergency Sleeping Program check-in process in the evening

  • Assist with preparing and/or serving Breakfast and/or Lunch for our patrons to enjoy

  • Go out onto the floor and interact with our patrons, fostering genuine conversations with out patrons and building empathetic relationships with a human population neglected by society

Location: Kitchen

Role: Breakfast

Days: 7 Days a Week

Shift

·      7am-9am

 

Help our staff serve hundreds of patrons continental breakfast. (Breakfast served from 7:30am-8:30am) Duties include serving, food prep, pouring coffee, dishwashing, general cleanup, and patron interaction.

Location: Kitchen

Role: Lunch

Days: 7 Days a Week

Shift

·      10am-12pm

Help our staff serve hundreds of patrons a hot lunch. (Lunch served from 11am-11:30am). Duties include but not limited to serving, food prep, pouring drinks, dishwashing, general clean up, and patron interaction.

Location: Kitchen

Role: Food Prep

Days: Mon, Tue, Wed, & Fri

Shifts

·      1pm-3pm

·      3pm-5pm

Assist our staff in prepping food for breakfast, lunch, and serving respite dinner.  Duties include but not limited to chopping, cleaning, peeling, cleaning, dishwashing, food storage, food donation processing, and assisting with the respite meal.

Location: Loading Dock

Role: Van Driver

Days: Monday -- Friday

Shifts

·      7:45am-11:45am

 

Using our delivery van, drive around to partnering grocery stores to collect donated food, produce, and beverages.  This job is best completed in teams of two.  Must have clean driving record and be comfortable driving utility van.  Includes heavy lifting.

Location: Main Floor

Role: Front Desk Assistant

Days: 7 Days a Week

Shifts

·      7:30am-10am

·      10am-12pm

·      Tues & Fri 12pm-2pm

Be at the center of shelter operations while answering phones, running the cell phone charging station, buzz people in and out for showers and laundry, and answering general inquiries.  Third shift available on Tuesdays and Fridays to assist Providence Medical Clinic.

Location: Main Floor

Role: Mail Room Assistant

Days: 7 Days a Week

Shifts

·      8am-10pm

·      10-12pm

Assist in distributing mail for our patron mail service, sorting mail, checking out towels, handing out donated toiletries, and engaging in housing-focused interactions.

Location: Upstairs

Role: ESP Assistant

Days: 7 Days a Week

Shift

·      7pm-8:30pm

Male Volunteers only assist in towel check out, pajama check out, and gear storage for our Emergency Sleeping Program.
