Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife

Students can assist at the fish hatchery, including feeding fish, mortality counts, cleaning and other tasks. This is hands-on work that requires working in pools of water with boots or waders, which can be provided by the Fish Hatchery with one month of notice. Morning shifts (either 7am - 11am, or 8am - 12pm) are best. Saturday and Sunday shifts are available. (Students must be 18 years or older.)
The Spokane Fish Hatchery is unique in that it is fed by a natural underground spring. Water is diverted in for use in spawning and in the fish pools and then is let back out into the stream. This hatchery stocks dozens of area lakes every year. The fish stock are sterilized so that they won't breed with indigenous fish.
