Who We Are
We would love volunteers to help plan and teach lessons, work with students to develop community projects, and provide one-on-one guidance with student homework. We would also like your help to provide support to underserved communities. Many students are refugees from international areas of conflict, or are U.S. citizens whose parents are refugees. Outreach programs to families in the South Perry neighborhood would fill a great need. We also seek volunteers to help minister to a diverse group of children and adults and work with our local congregation to grow and lead a monthly Jr. High and High School age gathering. Liberty Park welcomes students for both long-term and short-term service commitments. Due to the cost and medical testing associated with background clearances, students who wish to serve in the classroom with student populations must commit to serve at least 25 hours per semester. Long-term service can include work in curriculum development and implementation, English as a second language, social work and counseling, and religious studies. For shorter terms of service, students are needed to develop a business plan for the center as well as a marketing strategy to raise enrollments. The Center also welcomes students to develop text for a quarterly newsletter, to complete outreach in the South Perry neighborhood, and to assist in grant writing. Practicum placements available. Ability to work cross-culturally with youth ages 5-12. All volunteers must complete and application and screening process. ECEAP: Interest in serving children age 3-5. Background Check. Champion Program: Christian. Strong commitment to serving youth. Able to commit to regular schedule. WSP Background clearance required prior to work.
What We Do
Liberty Park Child Development center runs a number of programs for Pre-K and elementary-age children in the South Perry neighborhood near Grant Elementary. The programs include a publicly-funded Early Childhood Education Assistance Program in the morning and afternoon, as well as a Christian-based, privately funded before-and-after-school program and full-day summer programs for elementary-age students. The center provides a culturally diverse environment, reflecting the needs of students and their families from a variety of socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds, including a number of refugees from Southeast Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
