Who We Are
Student Success is made up of a space, a team, and coaches.
- Space: The Student Success Center is located in Lindaman 206 and is a designated area for study, tutoring, and test proctoring.
- Team: The Student Success Team is a group of caring and committed faculty and staff who strive to support Whitworth students during their time at Whitworth by connecting them to resources and by reaching out when any student’s behavior causes concern. Contact the SST or learn more about us.
- Coaches: Student-success coaches are academically sound and relationally intuitive students who have been trained to help students navigate academic challenges and the college landscape.
What We Do
Whitworth's Student Success Team
Whitworth and other colleges and universities have learned much from tragic events at educational institutions across the country. In many campus tragedies, important information about students has not been immediately accessible. Addressing that situation, Whitworth's SST offers faculty, staff and students one place to report their concerns about a student's behavior. 9-1-1 and then Whitworth Campus Security should always be called first in an emergency, but the SST serves as the centralized coordinating body for discussion and action regarding students who exhibit suicidal, self-injurious or other behaviors that might pose a threat to students and/or others in the Whitworth community.
Whitworth created the Student Success Team to engage students who may need additional support while at the university. The SST includes representatives from the student life and academic affairs divisions who will provide holistic support for students. The team is chaired by the assistant dean of off-campus students and the associate provost for instruction.
The SST meets weekly to follow up with individual students who are personally or academically at risk during their time at Whitworth. From these meetings, members of the team devise and follow up on a plan to support these students and connect them with the most advantageous resources. SST members then meet one-on-one with students to develop individual plans for their success at Whitworth. The goal is for more students to find success inside and outside of school because of early intervention. This ensures healthy students and a thriving campus.
