Who We Are
Whitworth students have often plugged into our community and found service opportunities by visiting Sunday morning worship (8:45 contemporary, 11 traditional), the Communitas Sunday evening worship gathering, and/or the Upper Room college community (meets each Sunday evening for a meal, discussion, service, etc. after Communitas). In each setting, students are encouraged to use their gifts to serve God and all neighbors: on campus, in Spokane, and beyond.
During Spring Break, FPC and Whitworth partner to offer the Put Down Roots local mission experience: this "trip" only goes as far as downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods, but it allows students to do justice alongside several incredible local organizations and see our city with new eyes.
And of course, our flourishing student ministries programs have long been the major way Whitworth students have connected with FPC. Get in touch to discuss the possibility of serving as a volunteer mentor in our Praxis high school community or SHIFT_jrhi middle school community. You'll find that your life is changed as you are investing in the lives of local teenagers.
What We Do
First Presbyterian Church is a community of 1,300 or so believers from across Spokane and beyond. Broadly speaking, we stand within the Reformed and evangelical streams of Christian tradition, meaning that we believe in the proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ for the salvation of a lost world, the unique authority of the written word of God, and the particular expression of Christian theology that emerged in the teaching of John Calvin and his followers at the time of the Protestant Reformation.
We value intergenerational fellowship, the life of the mind, the authentic worship of the people of God, and the living expression of worship as our posture and attitude wherever we may be, for the sake of the world beyond the church.
As a large “historic” downtown church we seek the transforming reality of the kingdom of Christ as it intersects with the reality of this city and its many needs. We hope you will join us on the incredible journey!
