Description

Calling for volunteers for a tree-pruning day at the Verbrugge Environmental Center.

What is the most frustrating thing about being a tree?
Having so many limbs and not being able to walk…or being infected with blister rust. Ouch!
Please consider joining our efforts in helping the White Pine survive at the Verbrugge Environmental Center. Pruning seems to be the only remedy to help keep the White pine from being infected.
Come prepared for a maintenance day at the Verbrugge property from 10:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and help alleviate the White Pine Blister rust.
Limber white pine blister rust, Anna Schoettle
This pruning workday is part of a larger effort for protecting the existing trees and future restoration of the riparian area at the center. In partnership with the Pend Oreille Conservation District, a planting of about 2100 native plants will take place in the meadow. Another volunteer effort will happen as the water situation in the meadow subsides. There will be a future date for volunteers to help with site preparation.

Date: Tuesday, April 11th – 10:30am start
Goal: Pruning of White Pine Trees on the property
Where: Verbrugge Environmental Center (VEC) @ 5031 Scotia Rd, Newport
Attire: Dress appropriately – boots, gloves, rain gear, etc. // Tools necessary for the project will be provided.

RSVP: Contact Dave LejaMeyer with email (dlejameyer@whitworth.edu), phone or text (509.599.7848).

An email with final details will be sent next Monday, 4/10.

Thank you,
Dave
