History:

Hoopfest is a Washington non-profit that operates the World's largest 3on3 outdoor basketball tournament. Now, in our 34th year, we anticipate over 5,000 teams on 350 courts, spanning 42 city blocks.  

Opportunities:

You don't need to be basketball savvy to volunteer; there are numerous opportunities at Hoopfest.  The most crucial volunteer is the Hoopfest Court Monitor.  So important, Hoopfest sweetens the deal by honoring a 2-day commitment as a Court Monitor with Under Armour brand clothing.  All Court Monitors will get shorts, shoes, monitor t-shirt, and hat.  Hoopfest will need nearly 400 court monitors.  Training will be provided. In fact, you have the choice to attend one of several orientations. Times and dates will be provided later this summer.

Importance:

The success of Hoopfest has allowed the organization to exceed $2M dollars in charitable contributions over the past 33 years. Major beneficiaries are Special Olympics, YMCA, and the Boys and Girls Club. Local neighborhood parks also receive basketball courts through the court construction project.

We meet every Saturday in the MPR from 12:00pm to 12:45 and make sack lunches. We then prepare to go downtown to meet and hangout with Park Tower residents till 2:30pm. JOB TITLE: Evening or Weekend Resident Assistant

Work alongside the RA staff member as an integral part of the team as they manage the flow of the house. Build personal and meaningful relationships in the house with Women and Children by bringing games/activities for the residents to do. Also assist the RA in their duties such as conflict resolution and shift reports. Very exciting and meaningful role in the house. The ideal person would be outgoing and okay with downtime in the role.

Assist UGM Staff member with Early Childhood development

In the Children’s Program we read books, play games, draw and do other fun activities. We use Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) techniques for children who have suffered from Trauma. Must understand that traumatized children NEED structure. Reports directly to the Children Program Coordinator. Assist Staff members in Childcare for children 0-5 years while mother is in Recovery Classes. In the Summer looking for volunteers to support school aged kids in fun summer activities.

Hearing and receiving the Gospel is key to moving from Crisis to contributing member of society but many times there is anxiety in leaving their child to attend Chapel. Partner with the work that is being done in the house during chapel time by providing a safe and secure environment for the children while Mom is in Chapel. Preference is a team of two or four people who are willing to make a commitment in the lives of the children.

Girl Scouts offers every girl a chance to practice a lifetime of leadership, adventure, and success. With our Go Getter outreach program we have been successful in engaging girls from low income neighborhoods into the Girl Scout program. We offer the Girl Scout experience to girls in Title 1 schools, low income rural communities, and community centers. With financial hardship hitting many of the families this past two years we grew our Go Getters program, and are positioned to offer even more girls the opportunity to participate in Girl Scouts with no expense out of pocket.  The demand for this program is higher than ever, and our goal as a council is to have 10% of our girl members as part of the Go Getter program.

As a Go Getter they will build friendships with other girls and belong regardless of their socio economic status. We teach girls how to make decisions and work as a team, build confidence in themselves, provide hands on work with STEM, spend time outdoors, and learn about entrepreneurship through cookie sales. Our studies show that this whole child approach works. Alums report higher academic attainment and income, greater community service and civic engagement, and a stronger sense of self.

We want to reach girls in high poverty areas and give them access to Girl Scouts. Poverty is one of the most widely used indicators of child well-being and has wide ranging negative effects on children’s health, educational achievement, and safety.

Traditionally, Girl Scout troops rely heavily on parental support and volunteering. In many high-poverty communities there is a lack of support and the financial burden on families are cited obstacles to participation, which Go Getters overcomes

The Spokane Parks and Recreation Therapeutic Recreation Services Powderhound alpine program is in great need of volunteer Snowboard instructors. Our students have developmental disabilities and are wanting to learn how to snowboard.

The City Gate is a church devoted to the work of restoring the lost and broken lives of people living on the streets in the inner city of Spokane. We provide basic needs to the poor through meals, a food bank, clothing bank, counseling services, transitional housing, and church services.

We would love for volunteers to help us serve an evening meal or breakfast as an individual or a group, which could involve working in the kitchen, serving food to clients, welcoming and seating people, or checking bags. Dinner runs from 7-9 and breakfasts from 8-11.

House Volunteer Positions

Position Description

At Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Inland Northwest (RMHC), volunteers have the opportunity to join the Family Services team in completing tasks that make the house a hospitable space for families and guests. Volunteer tasks include, but are not limited to:

Additional duties may be assigned according to experience, request, and need.

House Volunteers typically spend most of their shift standing and moving about the house. Some light lifting and physical tasks will be required.

Ronald McDonald House does not accommodate court ordered community service.

Scheduling

Volunteers are asked to commit to one four-hour shift every week for a longer term (6+ months).

Volunteer opportunities are available at either our downtown kitchen location (218 N. Crestline, Spokane WA) or one of our twelve (12) congregate locations located throughout Spokane County. More common tasks involve simple meal preparation, portion distribution/control, meal packaging, preparation for meal transportation, inventory and sanitary practices.  The vast majority of the opportunities are located at the kitchen while those at the congregate sites will include the previously mentioned tasks plus the probability of serving meals - in whole or in part - to the general public.

Join us at St. Anne's in the classroom!  You will be an active member of the classroom involved personally with your Lead Teacher and Assistant Teacher, most importantly with the children.

Our children range in age from (4) weeks to (6) years of age.  You will be actively assisting the Lead Teachers with the daily tasks and classroom activities. You may be reading with a child, working on communication skills, learning positive behavior guidance techniques, even outside for some exercise and fresh air.

Students will assist with furthering the programs (Group Supported Employment and Individual Supported Employment) for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Earn Volunteer hours or Service Learning credit by working either learning software development, coding, UI/UX with Share Farm technology and helping vendors with their branding and  social media awareness at local farmers markets and community gardens. Share.Farm is a technology company who's sole focus is improving the connection with youth and farmers within the local community. We  also link students to local farms who are looking for assistance with sustainable, organic and natural education where the student can sell the "fruits of their labor" to gain financial capital while receiving college credit, thus providing a connection within the community and relevant sustainable experience for the future.

The role of the hospital classroom tutor is to interact meaningfully with a pediatric patient around their studies from their home school.  We hope we can engage kids in academic work for one hour per day, and then encourage them to stay out of their hospital rooms for an additional hour of fun STEM activities.  We have Ozobots, Cubelets, Snap Circuits, Little Bits, and a 3-D Printer!  Our goal is to help kids feel meaningfully connected to school activities, even while in the hospital.

Catholic Charities Eastern Washington is a network of agencies, institutions, parishes, and individuals, united in Gospel spirit, who are servants to the poor, supporters for families and aides to parishes and communities in meeting the social service needs of people in eastern Washington. Food for All addresses food security in Spokane in a variety of ways.

Food For all provides fresh produce to various Catholic Charities housing units, along with other meal sites in the community. We support Spokane area farmers markets by serving as an anchor produce vendor and providing support and administering programs to maximize the accessibility of farmers markets for food insecure households. Working with various Catholic Charities housing units, we provide nutrition education through our Welcoming Table meal program.

We welcome help from volunteers in a variety of ways. You may help us from November - April with Welcoming Table, with farmers market or fruit tree gleans and/or our produce delivery program from May - October, Greenhouse help from mid-spring to early fall, data entry projects occurring throughout the year, among other opportunities. Be a Hutton Settlement volunteer tutor and assist children in their academic and social development! Build quality relationships while being a volunteer tutor for a child. We would love your help with the Journeys program (a creative arts program housed in our on-site, arts studio), with the SALUTE program (a weekly 4-H and service learning program) or the Odyssey scouting program (which challenges our youth through outdoor adventures and teambuilding activities). Commit to only one to two hours a week based on your availability. (Children's study hour is from 4:00 - 5:00 P.M., Monday through Thursday). All volunteers must meet certain qualifications and will undergo background checks. Volunteer tutors typically start at the beginning of a school year, must commit for the entire term and are matched to the individual needs of available children.

riginally known as the Downtown Women's Shelter, Hope House was founded in response to the 1997 serial murders of women on the streets of Spokane to offer women protection from violence on the street. Operated by Volunteers of America since 2001, Hope House is dedicated to making a significant difference in the lives of homeless women. Hope House provides an overnight shelter and permanent housing for single, homeless women, ages 18 and over. Volunteers are needed to help in the emergency shelter in the mornings or evenings. Volunteers must be 18 or over and able to pass a background check.

Founded in 1985, Crosswalk is an emergency shelter, a school drop-out prevention program, and a group of lifesaving and life-changing programs dedicated to breaking the cycle of youth homelessness. In an average year, Crosswalk serves more than 1,000 youth. Emergency shelter is available 365 days a year and all services are free and voluntary.

Cup of cool Water is seeking a Whitworth University intern to work on its development team to assist with creating products that help grow brand awareness in the Spokane community.

SERA is a non-profit organization that provides no-cost tutoring, grades 1-12, after-school.  You do not need education or tutoring experience, but a caring interest in helping students learn, with an encouraging positive attitude is a must.  We provide training.   This is very rewarding, to get to know these young students, and to help them to have success in learning and progressing.

GRIP(Gang Repression Intervention and Prevention) is seeking mentors to serve youth and young adults aged 12 to 24 throughout Spokane County. A mentor will serve as a dependable friend that will look out for the youth's well-being, serve as a trusted ear, a connection to resources and employment assistance, and will help get the youth re-engaged in a program that is individualized based on their needs.

Join Project Unify as a volunteer. You can support a team with coaching and mentoring or attend sports events to cheer on our athletes. Work with the Whitworth Project Unify Club to support initiatives at area schools.

Project UNIFY is a U.S. national project funded by the U.S. Department of Education. It uses sports and education programs to activate young people to develop school communities where all youth are agents of change, fostering respect, dignity, and advocacy for people with intellectual disabilities.

Students can participate as volunteers in classes or recreational events for individuals with developmental disabilities. (A schedule of classes and events will be provided.) Students can select classes of interest, and plan to attend regular class sessions as a classroom volunteer. Students can also participate as volunteers in the TRS Skiing Program. Assistance is needed for adaptive skiing programs (mobility limitations), developmental disabilities skiing programs (cognitive limitations). Individuals with minimal skiing proficiency can be of assistance with these events, which include alpine and Nordic skiing. (Skiing Program trainings schedule will be announced.) The Martin Luther King Jr. Family Outreach Center is a non-profit, community-based social service center located in East Central Spokane, one of the most ethnically diverse neighborhoods in Spokane County.

Students will provide classroom assistance for preschool and school-age children in one of the most ethnically diverse neighborhoods in Spokane. Hours in the education center are available from 8:00am - 6:00pm weekdays, and include early childhood education and afterschool programs. We love volunteers for our annual summer Read-a-thon. Practicum placements are available in our Family Services Department working in support of case managers. Background clearance forms are required, which require one to two weeks to process. The volunteer orientation will take approximately 1 - 2 hours.

The new North YMCA-YWCA is a state-of-the-art 52,000 sq. ft. facility on 16 treed acres. The facility offers an Aquatic Center, Teen and Fitness Centers, Gymnasium, Outdoor Recreation space, and community gathering areas. The North Y is located at the intersection of Nevada Street and Hwy 2.

Students can be involved with events such as April Healthy Kids Day (big all day events for the community to enjoy and participate in) or the Spring Kids Triathalon. We map all the fruit and nut trees in the Spokane area, then we go out and harvest the produce when it is ripe! All our produce is donated to Second Harvest Food Bank.

Volunteers can be involved in several ways:

Tree scouts work in their own neighborhoods to register productive and underutilized fruit trees! This is a fun opportunity to serve as a vital liaison between SETP and fruit tree owners in your area. We provide all necessary training and materials. This volunteer position begins in mid-June and ends at the end of October of each year.

Harvesting parties bring people together to pick fruit that might otherwise go to waste, and make it available to people in need. These events are a fun and easy way to get involved with the SETP. Our harvest season begins in late June and ends in early November.

Harvest Leaders co-lead gleaning mobs along with another volunteer. We provide all of the necessary training, materials, and support. You would be expected to commit to co-lead several harvesting parties between early July and early November.

Fruit Monitor volunteers serve as an important role in the harvest planning process.  Fruit Monitors will conduct site visits at registered tree sites to assess the quality, quantity, and ripeness of fruit so that we can determine if and when to schedule a harvesting party.

SETP will have volunteer training workshops to be taught by experienced volunteers who want to share their knowledge. Do you have expertise in topics related to fruit tree care or food preservation? Would you like to share your knowledge with the community?

GSC Meals on Wheels delivers approximately 500 hot lunchtime meals to home-bound seniors, disbursed over 40-plus delivery routes, Monday through Friday.  Volunteers pick up the meals from any one of various sites throughout Spokane and Spokane County.  It takes approximately 1-1/2 to 2 hours to deliver a route of 10 to 15 stops.  The meals are delivered to the clients between the hours of 11:00 AM and 1:00PM. Another important component of this service is a basic “safety check” - usually nothing more than a brief conversation - for each client along the route. Volunteers choose the day of the week and frequency that they would like to deliver.

Do you enjoy talking to people about issues you are passionate about?  SNAP is Spokane County's Community Action agency and we have over 30 great programs that are available to help our neighbors reach financial stability.  We love to let people know about our work and how we can help them!  However, limited bandwidth and resources means we sometimes have to say 'No' to opportunities to present, and these are GREAT places to utilize volunteers!  Please get in touch if you like doing public presentations, tabling at fun community events, or meeting new people and we can talk through options as a SNAP Ambassador!

We are looking for some volunteers who could help plan and carry out after school activities and/or help with homework with kids at one of SNAP's housing properties.  Experience or studies in childhood development, or hopes to go into teaching or working with kids would be great for this opportunity!  Commitment can be flexible, but we need volunteers available from 3.30-5pm on various weekdays, on an ongoing basis.  Help make a difference in kids' lives and be in touch if this sounds like fun for you!

We are looking for a group to provide a meal once a month during our day drop-in time on a Wednesday. Our food groups provide a meal for around 40 individuals and serve the meal in our drop-in center. Groups show-up at 12:30 with a prepared meal, serve the meal when we open at 1 pm and usually finish serving the food around 2:30 pm.

REQUIREMENTS:

Spark Center is a community creativity center with open hours, a lending library, technology access, and many great programs for all ages. Volunteers run our front desk and help patrons check out materials, access the web, use technology, and get help with what they need. They also keep our center tidy, and can volunteer between 2.5 and 12 hours per week, depending on what the volunteer wants. Volunteering at Spark is a great way to connect with the community!

HOURS POSSIBLE:  2.5 hours a week (or more), during our open hours of M-F from 10a-6p and Saturday 12p-5p.

REQUIREMENTS:  

The primary purpose of this position is to assits the Marketing Department with social media, logging, notes to donors, processing cards and other materials for special events.

Time commitment: 2-5 hours per week.

The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Sponsor-A-Child Coordinator. This includes learning computer systems, keeping records current and communicating with both field coordinators and sponsors. Letters from the sponsored children are due from the field three times a year an dare processed, recorded and sent to their respective sponsors. Shild records are constantly updated.

Time commitment: 2 - 5 hours per week

Supports users with trouble tickets related to technology including: PC and Macs, office software and cloud applications, network connectivity, e-mail and browser issues. Assists in educating users in an one-on-one environment on best use of hardware and software. Collaborate with IT Department on Salesforce, SharePoint, Office 365, Google and other cloud-based projects.

Join The Peak 7 Adventures Team!

We are in need of Volunteers to drive shuttle for our Peak 7 Adventures Whitewater Rafting Trips!  Duties include: driving from the put-in to the takeout, stopping to take pictures at the two major rapids, and driving participants from the take-out back to their vehicles at the put-in.

A Cat and/or Dog Socializer comes to SCRAPS and pets, loves and interacts with SCRAPS animals.

 An Adoption Counselor engages SCRAPS visitors and talks with them about what kind on animal they are looking for. He/she tries to match the needs of the adopter with a SCRAPS animal. The volunteers should know about each SCRAPS animal and be familiar with adoption processes and guidelines.

One Pet Portal photographer is scheduled every day to come to SCRAPS and take quality photographs of the adoptable animals. The volunteer then uploads the photographs along with a brief descriptions with personality information to a web site that distributes the information to hundreds of locations where potential adopters my look on the internet.

An outreach volunteer is in place for community events that SCRAPS attends. He/she should stand at the SCRAPS booth and represent SCRAPS positively. An outreach volunteer should be able to engage the public in conversation and tell them about SCRAPS. Most of the time at outreach, there is an adoptable dog or cat. An outreach volunteer will be the person responsible for the animal and for the adoption process when appropriate.

Champion Program Leader (Internship)

Liberty Park Child Development Center serves children and families living in and around Liberty Park Apartments, a HUD subsidized affordable housing complex.    As an outreach ministry of the Presbytery of the Inland Northwest, our mission is to connect and empower the community through education, life skills, and relationships to glorify God and prepare children to become leaders in the South Perry neighborhood.

 Internship Learning Objectives

All interns work directly with school age children attending Grant Elementary, a Title 1 school.  Interns work indirectly with the parents/guardians of children.

EDUCATION: Interns plan and teach lessons, work with students to develop community projects, and provide one-on-one guidance with student homework.

SOCIOLOGY: Interns learn through experience how to provide support to underserved communities.  Many students come from challenging life circumstances economically, socially, and culturally.  Many students are refugees from international areas of conflict, or are U.S. citizens whose parents are refugees.  Students may have limited English speaking ability, or have difficulty understanding cultural differences.  Sociology interns seek understanding and provide guidance and support to the children and parents of children in the “Champion” program.

MINISTRY: Interns will learn how to minister to a diverse group of children and adults.  Interns will plan Christian based lessons around “Fruit of the Spirit” themes.  Each theme will be demonstrated through Bible teachings, activities, and discussion.  Ministry interns will work with a local congregation to grow and lead a monthly Jr. High and High School age gathering.

 Reporting Procedure and Job Classification

This position reports to the Program & Development Director.  This position is non-compensable, though students may be eligible for college credit or other educational stipends.

 Schedule:

School Year: The Champion Intern at Liberty Park Child Development Center will regularly attend the after school Champion program (Daily, Weekly, Biweekly, or Monthly).  Champion program hours are from 3:15pm to 5:45pm.

Summer Program: Program hours are from 11-4 Monday through Thursday between June 23rd and August 15th.  Interns and staff work together to provide positive summer activities and Christian education to school age children 6-12 years of age.
