The Crisis Shelter for Women and Children exists to provide a safe, healthy, short-term refuge for women and children in crisis. The Shelter strives to keep as many women and children off the streets as possible and admits guests until it reaches full capacity. A playground for younger children was created adjacent to the facility, providing a safe, clean play area for the children at the Shelter.

JOB TITLE: Intake Desk Support (doing a little bit of everything)

Check Guests in and out Hand out bedding, toiletries, etc. to guests during check-in Pray for and encourage our guests/children as needed Must have strong boundaries Manage the overall safety of the shelter

JOB TITLE: Case Management Shadowing

Student will support the case manager in an admin role and shadow meetings with clients in case management to understand needs of women in the shelter.

JOB TITLE: Maintenance Assistant

Assist the full-time maintenance staff in the continuous “up-keep” of our facility. Reports directly to the Maintenance supervisor, conducting (could include working alongside residents or just with staff): General grounds keeping such as mowing, trimming, gardening, etc. Electrical Work, Floor Care, Large in-house projects. If you are handy and have some spare time to help keep our beautiful home cared for this is for you!

JOB TITLE: Evening Childcare 

Hearing and receiving the Gospel is key to moving from Crisis to contributing member of society but many times there is anxiety in leaving their child to attend Chapel. Partner with the work that is being done in the house during chapel time by providing a safe and secure environment for the children while Mom is in Chapel. Preference is a team of two or four people who are willing to make a commitment in the lives of the children.

Union Gospel Mission Women's Recovery Program at Anna Ogden Hall, introduces women and children to the love of Christ in a secure environment that promotes dignity and God-centered personal growth. Established in 1971, this warm, welcoming, home-like shelter provides a long-term (18mos-2yrs) Christ-centered recovery program for 40 women and their children, offering counseling, Bible studies, life-skill classes, parenting classes and support, and an education / vocational component so that women may become God-dependent, contributing members of our community. 

JOB TITLE: Childcare Assistant

Assist UGM Staff member with Early Childhood development

In the Children’s Program we read books, play games, draw and do other fun activities. We use Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) techniques for children who have suffered from Trauma. Must understand that traumatized children NEED structure. Reports directly to the Children Program Coordinator. Assist Staff members in Childcare for children 0-5 years while mother is in Recovery Classes. In the Summer looking for volunteers to support school aged kids in fun summer activities.

JOB TITLE: Evening or Weekend Resident Assistant

Work alongside the RA staff member as an integral part of the team as they manage the flow of the house. Build personal and meaningful relationships in the house with Women and Children by bringing games/activities for the residents to do. Also assist the RA in their duties such as conflict resolution and shift reports. Very exciting and meaningful role in the house. The ideal person would be outgoing and okay with downtime in the role.

Mon-Fri 4-8pm or 4-10pm, Saturdays and Sundays during the day
