Volunteering at Sacred Heart Medical Center:
For a few hours a week, you can be part of a world-class team at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center through its volunteer program. Providence is a place where healing occurs, not only by medical and surgical intervention, but by the touch of a hand, a shared smile, a listening ear, a prayer or a knowing wink. It’s a place where you can make a difference through your acts of kindness, making life better for you and for those you help! We have a number of volunteer positions available. Once you complete an application and onboarding process, we can place you in a position suited to your strengths. All volunteers must complete an application, background check and health screening.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Who do I notify if I will
be absent?
A: For vacations or long-term absences, inform the
volunteer manager. For one-time absences, call your department using the number
on your badge sticker. If there's no number on your badge, no notification is
needed.
Q: How many hours do I need to
commit as a volunteer? How often?
A: Volunteers are required to commit to at least 75
hours of service. Typically, volunteers commit to at least one 3-hour
shift a week, for 6 months.
Q: Can I volunteer just over
the summer?
A: Regrettably, we cannot accommodate volunteers only for the summer at this time.
Q: My friend also volunteers here
- can we volunteer at the same time?
A: Unfortunately,
this is likely not feasible, as most of our programs have only one volunteer on
shift at a time.
Q: Can
students volunteer to earn class or program credits?
A: Yes, students in need of volunteer hours for school
are welcome so long as they can commit to the 75-hour requirement. Applications
should be submitted no later than 7 months prior to
the intended class or program deadline.
Q: I am part of a club that
would like to volunteer as a group. Is this possible?
A: While we do not offer
in-hospital group volunteering or one-time volunteer events, there are numerous
other ways your club or group can contribute to our hospital's mission and
support our patients from outside our facilities. We value every form of support
and are eager to share a variety of alternative options that align with your
group's interests and availability. Please contact us, and we will provide you
with a list of impactful opportunities to make a difference.
Q: Once I have started
volunteering in a role, how can I switch to a new role?
A: To ensure a meaningful experience, we ask that
volunteers commit to a minimum of 75 hours in their initial role. This
commitment reflects the training and resources provided by the department volunteers
are placed in. After fulfilling this commitment, volunteers are welcome to
explore other opportunities within our organization.
