Who We Are

Fundraising:

Each meal costs $.25.  In order for us to pack one million meals, we first need to reach our goal of raising $250,000.

Students have been raising funds through selling bracelets, gift cards for christmas and many other ways.  A private donor offered to match $25,000 and President Taylor has raised $50,000 for this campaign!

Individuals wishing to fundraise: Could you commit to raising $75? That's asking five people to donate $15, or 2 people to donate around $35.  Easy!

To donate, please visit www.whitworth.edu/onemillionmeals and click 'make a gift to the million meals project' at the bottom of the page.  Any amount of donation is appreciated and will go far to feed individuals and families in the area.

Volunteering:

On May 3rd, we will need approximately 2000 volunteers to reach our goal of packing one million meals in one day. Sign up with an existing organization or team, or start your own!

Be a Team Captain: Team Captains are essential to this project.  This means you have the opportunity to recruit ten others who would be a part of your "team" for fundraising or on the day of packing.  It is also a way for people to be placed at the same table for packing.  It is a great community building and leadership project.  Would you consider setting a fundraising goal of $600 for your team?  For a team of 11-12 people, that rounds out to only $50 to raise per team member.

What We Do

The One Million Meals in May campaign is a collaborative effort with many different players.  The idea of packing One Million Meals started with San Fransisco Giants Pitcher and Generation Alive Founder Jeremy Affeldt.  In 2007 Jeremy founded Generation Alive, a non-profit organization committed to motivating students to act out of compassion.  In his book, "To Stir A Movement," Jeremy writes about his dream of packing one million meals.  Whitworth University President Beck Taylor read about the dream, and knew that Whitworth should be a part in making this happen. President Taylor soon got Whitworth's student government, ASWU, on board.  ASWU is a collaborative and representative resource for students on Whitworth's campus. It acts as a bridge between students and faculty, and as a voice for the diverse members of the student body.  There are many different resources involved in the fundraising and packing for this event. The ASWU has committed its members to organizing and facilitating events around educating the Whitworth campus on the One Million Meals project. As a member of the Spokane community, the Whitworth campus is proud to serve the Greater Spokane Area by raising enough money and packing the meals to fill 4 semi trucks of food for members of this city.

We are so excited about raising $250,000 and packing One Million Meals on May 3rd for the Greater Spokane community!
