Who We Are

Greater Spokane County Meals on Wheels serves over 25,000 meals per month in our home delivered meal program and at our 13 Silver Cafes. GSC Meals on Wheels home delivered meals are a lifeline to homebound elderly and critically ill individuals throughout Spokane County. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday between 11:30AM and 1:00PM.

**Note: Anyone wishing to drive and deliver meals will be required to provide their own transportation and carry their own vehicle, accident, and health insurance.**

What We Do

Hunger is a serious issue facing thousands of seniors each day. Greater Spokane County Meals on Wheels fights senior hunger and social isolation for vulnerable adults. Our goal is for no senior to go hungry.

Kitchen/Meal Prep

Volunteer opportunities are available at either our downtown kitchen location (218 N. Crestline, Spokane WA) or one of our twelve (12) congregate locations located throughout Spokane County. More common tasks involve simple meal preparation, portion distribution/control, meal packaging, preparation for meal transportation, inventory and sanitary practices.  The vast majority of the opportunities are located at the kitchen while those at the congregate sites will include the previously mentioned tasks plus the probability of serving meals - in whole or in part - to the general public.

Meal Delivery

GSC Meals on Wheels delivers approximately 500 hot lunchtime meals to home-bound seniors, disbursed over 40-plus delivery routes, Monday through Friday.  Volunteers pick up the meals from any one of various sites throughout Spokane and Spokane County.  It takes approximately 1-1/2 to 2 hours to deliver a route of 10 to 15 stops.  The meals are delivered to the clients between the hours of 11:00 AM and 1:00PM. Another important component of this service is a basic “safety check” - usually nothing more than a brief conversation - for each client along the route. Volunteers choose the day of the week and frequency that they would like to deliver.

Nutritional Management / Assessment Internship

Applicants will work closely with our Registered/Licensed Dietitian in the area of community dietetics, geriatric nutrition, and food service. The applicants may gain experience in one or all of the following areas of dietetics, nutrition, and business management: menu development; research design and reporting; client counseling; food service management; development of written nutrition education publications; client satisfaction survey design and reporting; food time and temperature studies; report writing; geriatric nutrition practices; in-home nutritional assessments; nutrition education presentation; and personal portfolio development. This opportunity has been very beneficial to past interns by giving them the much-needed experience required/requested by most internship, coordinated, or graduate school programs.
